The Two Best Ways to Reduce EMI and RFI
It is uncommon to find a wireless system that does not become some sort of receiver or antenna. The spurious signals that these devices inadvertently transmit and receive are known to degrade the performance of RF subsystems. To combat this problem, designers must focus their attention on RFI shielding techniques and good printed-circuit boards. These two do a lot to reduce EMI and RFI.
EMI is disruptive energy that is emitted from circuits. It reaches other circuits within a design, and it also reaches other devices that are close by. If a circuit is exposed to a great deal of the energy, it will harm performance. In high enough doses, it can even be harmful to humans. EMI and RFI are essential for protecting devices and people.
In modern, wireless technology, EMI comes from two primary sources. The RF front end and the internal digital circuits. Designs create PCB layouts that keep EMI to a minimum. For instance, they will use ground planes that are known to minimize parasitic capacitance. They will also generate ground loops to reduce EMI.
You must be mindful of emitted radiation that is generated by both differential and common-mode currents. It also propagates through the conducting medium.
