The Importance of EMI Shielding for Modern Electronics
Without a doubt, EMI shielding is an essential tool that is used every day. Most people do not realize that modern electronics could not work at optimal levels without the benefits found from EMI and RFI gaskets. Without an astute awareness of EMI, electric designs tend to lack adequate protection from electromagnetic fields. Electromagnetism is found in the RF (radio frequency) spectrum. RF waves are the basis for radio technology, but they are also widely known to transmit signals that negatively affect wireless communications and electronic devices.
EMI is created in two ways: naturally and humanmade. Natural electromagnetic interference comes from the sun and other natural phenomena. Humanmade EMI is way more intrusive, and so it has a much bigger effect on electronic equipment when compared to natural EMI sources.
MI shielding gaskets are specifically designed to protect electronics from harmful electromagnetic interference. Most commonly, these shields are constructed from metal sheets that get formed into shapes that fit desired electronic enclosures or housings. Aluminum, steel, and copper are commonly used because these materials are rigid and strong. Thinner metals can potentially deform under excessive pressure from sealing. Once deformed, gaskets typically remain in their new shape, which allows for EMI to get in and out of the electronic device. Any amount of leakage could be detrimental to the operational output of devices.
EMI RFI Shielding
Modern shielding material can include a flexible metal screen with metal wires and metal foams. Metallic inks are also applied to enclosures to provide extra protection. For EMI and RFI shielding, you should give our team a call today.
