EMI Regulations
All electronic devices are subject to strict EMI shielding and RFI shielding regulations. These regulations are in place to protect electronic components from harmful EMI and RFI radiation.
Almost every government has specific rules that govern the regulation of EMI and RFI radiation. In the United States of America, there are many guidelines for commercial equipment that are issued by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The guidelines are created to assist engineers creating new technology. These guidelines help mitigate the negative effects that are the result of excessive EMI or RFI radiation. The FCC mandates that all mass communication devices be equipped with the appropriate EMI shielding and RFI shielding.

In the military sector, regulations are even more severe because too much radiation could be difference between life and death on the battlefield. In order to guarantee that an electronic component will preform as designed, it must be thoroughly shielded from EMI or RFI. Simultaneously, the circuits in the component itself must be shielded so that they do not emanate radiation and threaten the performance of other electronic equipment.
